What I find impressive about the Zoom 105-R is just how seriously Pentax treated it at the time. This was their top-of-the-range point and shoot, and the feature list reflects that: the lens is an 11-element design, the zoom can be operated in continuous or stepped increments with the focal length displayed on the LCD, and there are two dedicated macro modes for close-up work down to 45cm.

On top of the usual automatic modes, it has interval shooting, multi-exposure, a bulb mode that goes up to 60 minutes, and a five-frame self-timer. That is a creative toolkit you would not expect from a point and shoot. Worth knowing: it is a big camera by compact standards at 480g without batteries, so it is more of a travel and day-out camera than something to carry in a shirt pocket.

But if you want serious reach and serious features without stepping up to an SLR, this is a compelling option. It comes with camera & wrist strap.
