AV-1, AV-1 stands for Aperture Value, indicating its priority exposure mode Introduced in May 1979. When the AV-1 was released, Canon introduced the "New FD" lenses: these have a more convenient mounting mechanism. Aperture-priority automatic exposure (Av): you set the aperture, the camera picks shutter speed. No fully manual exposure mode - this was by design to appeal to users who preferred AE convenience.

Metering: TTL center-weighted (via silicon photocell). AE selector dial has several positions: normal AE, AE with auto flash, self-timer, bulb, etc. Shutter speed range: from 2 seconds up to 1/1000 sec, plus "B" (bulb). Eye-leve l pentaprism Coverage : 92-93% of frame (horizontal 93%, vertical 92%) per Canon.

Magnification : 0.87× (with a 50 mm lens at infinity). Focusing screen : split-image + microprism rangefinder + meter needle + exposure warning indicators. Supports film speed / ISO from about 25 up to 1600 (some sources list up to 2600, though). 6 V battery : typically a 4LR44 or PX-28.

There is also a PC socket for off-camera flash (on some models). Back-light compensation switch: helps adjust exposure when subject is back-lit.

Mirror: instant-return with shock absorbe. Professionally cleaned, inspected, and tested by a Certified Technician. Including the shutter, flash trigger, zoom, menu navigation, lighting, display, and other key features were completely tested and confirmed to be working properly.
